Obamacare’s Applications Are Not As Simple As We Were Promised

A few weeks ago I shared this video in the weekly email I send to my clients.

This morning I read, “Will nation’s uninsured get lost in long application for Obama health care plan?” in the Washington Post.

In the article it is pointed out that Obama’s Health Insurance Exchanges are not going to be as simple as Obama suggested.  We were promised that the Health Insurance Exchange portals would be as simple as buying travel tickets on line.  They are not appearing to be that simple.

According to the proposed documents from the Department of Health and Human Services the paper application for one of Obama’s Essential Health Benefit plans is supposed to average 45 minutes to complete.  The on-line portal, that was supposed to be simple, takes 60 pages to explain and 30 minutes for the average person to complete.

During the Health Care Reform debates of 2009 Obama’s troops stated over and over that the exchanges would be easy portals for Americans to use to secure health insurance.  I guess for lying politicians forms that only take 45 minutes to complete are considered simple.

I wonder, however, if people are willing to remain uninsured now because they consider a health insurance application too confusing, how they are going to react to the new paper-work?

The law that is now known as Obamacare was passed along party lines on March 23, 2010.  Now that the PPACA is almost 3 years old, Americans are about to learn that they have been deceived.

In March 2010, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, said “We have to pass the bill so that we can find out what is in it apart from the fog…”

The phrases, “I told you so” and “You were warned” sound a little hollow.  Regardless of the prophesies from the political right coming true, there is very little that can be done, at least for the next two years.

Regardless of how complex the new system is, every law-abiding American must have some form of Obama’s Essential Health Benefit in 2014 or pay a “Penalty” tax.

Those who get their health insurance from work or a government program do not have to worry.  Their plans will be compliant with Obamacare’s new rules.

Those who do not get their health insurance from work or are eligible for a government program must choose to obtain coverage through either a government sponsored on-line exchange or a private insurance broker.
