Today I want to follow-up on a post from last November. Back then I was just sharing our experience with one of the new Obamacare provisions in, “Obamacare Promises Free Colonoscopies – Yeah Right.”
Apparently, I we are not the only people who have been screwed by the new provision. In her post from April 16, Michelle Andrews of Kaiser Health News tries to explain why there is confusion over colonoscopies.
The only thing that is certain about the new rules for colonoscopies is that they only apply to people who have health insurance in the first place. If you are one of the millions of uninsured Americans or have a plan that is not compliant with Obamacare, you will need to postpone your colonoscopy, if you need one, until next year when all Americans, who are not exempt, will be required to buy one of 4 Essential Benefit Plans.
If you have had or been advised to have a colonoscopy from your doctor, click the banner below to read an attempt to explain how your insurance will pay. Just keep in mind that insurance is not health care. If your doctor says you need the procedure, you can still get it whether or not your insurance company pays the full cost.
Your hospital does not care whether the money comes from you or an insurance company. They just care that they get paid.
